THE PROJECT -
To raise money toward Clean Water for Ethiopia.
Update from Hope International May 31, 2011
Last year's work was in the Bonke district of southern Ethiopia. Most of the work was in and around the major town of the district, Gerese. As a result 20,000 villagers in the district now have access to clean water.
This year the work continues in more remote areas of the Bonke district. In 2011 and early 2012, clean water is being delivered to at least 12,000 people. One of the springs to be capped, Denebile Ossa, will provide clean water for over 3,000 of the people.
Doug's Ride raised to date $9,300. (water for 300 people!)
GOAL: $10,000 for 10,000 kms by the completion of Leg 3.
Your generous donations will go towards a clean water system for residents of a village in Bonke District in southern Ethiopia. A clean water system includes a spring cap, pipeline, reservoir, village water points, and education and training for the entire community.
The pressing issue is not a lack of water, but the poor's lack of access to clean water. Clean water from wells and capped water sources can prevent much of the suffering that results from the use of contaminated water.
There is more than enough water in our world for domestic, agricultural and industrial needs. By providing access to uncontaminated water alongside health and sanitation education, HOPE encourages practices that positively affect family health.
Thank you for your support of Doug's Fundraising toward HOPE's clean water and sanitation efforts in Ethiopia.
