Doug's Ride  - Burnaby to the Black Sea
Doug's Ride: (subject to change as all the unknowns become known)            
Leg 1:  Leaving May 9, 2010, cycling across Canada until mid July.  Then Amsterdam to Germany, following the Danube to the Black Sea and Istanbul, Turkey. Back in Burnaby by early November.
Leg 2:  2011 
    
               Raising money toward Clean Water for Ethiopia.

A few wrong turns and much problem solving. Doug should arrive in Budapest in two or three more days.  A blog from there.1400 km to go.

August 27 - to Doborgazsziget, Hungary with an unitnetional side trip to Feketeerdo. Rainy and stormy.

August 22 -  In Tulln and heading to Vienna today.  Updates of route, kilometers cycled, photos and more by the end of the week.
 
August 17- We arrived in Passau today by train.  After a hard day of riding in rain and into the wind, 60 km to Degendorf, this morning's downpour sent us as far as the Bahnhof.  Auf Wiedersehen to Germany.  Tomorrow we start the leg to Vienna.  
 
August 12 - riding to Neuburg
 
August 11 - in Dillingen an der Donau
Cycling distance since Amsterdam 723 km (plus many more when we took the wrong turn).  Train distance 549 km.
Train travel is fascinating.  Bikes are welcome on most trains and it's easy once all the schedules are figured out. 
Today we will backtrack via train to the city of Ulm for a visit.
 
August 8 - we are in Munderkingen, Germany along the Danube River.  It has been difficult to get internet connections.  The Spot Tracker batteries were out of service for a few days.  Train from Maastricht to Koblenz and then cycled the Rhine river until Bingen.  Train from Bingen to Donaueschin and cycling the Danube trail.  Doug will follow this path to the Black Sea.
 
August 1 - to Maastricht along the Maas river.
 
July 27 - 31st
Amsterdam - Gouda - Wijk bij Duurstede - Nijmegen, a rest day to go to visit Arnhem (the Bridge too Far).  Nijmegen to Venlo.
Done 286 km
plus many more for all the extra km being lost. (Thank you Willy!)
 
July 22 - flying to Amsterdam.  Will start riding on July 27th.
